• It’s a pre – sea training course in Merchant Navy.
• GP Rating is a basic and entry level course in Merchant Navy.
• After successfully completion of GP Rating course you can join in Merchant Navy as a Deck Cadet or Engine Cadet.
• DG Shipping or Director General Shipping, Government of India, Mumbai is a final and supreme authority of GP Rating course.

6 Month ( Six Month )

Minimum qualification class 10th or Madhyamik or secondary examination from a government COBSE recognized board.
With 40% aggregate in science and mathematics and 40% aggregate in English as a subject either in 10th 12th or Diploma or Degree level examinations.

Minimum 17 year 5 month and maximum 25 years.
No age relaxation for S.C , S.T , O.B.C and others category candidate.

• 6/6 vision each eye.
• no color blindness.
• no eye glass or spectacles permitted as per Medical standard
• Height 157 cm and weight 48 kg.
• Candidate should be free from any physical and mental disability, disease or abnormality.
• All medical examination will be conducted by DG Shipping approved authority or doctors as per Merchant shipping medical examination rules 2000 prior to final selection.

• In all over India GP Rating course fees is approximately 1,80,000/- Rupees to 2,20,000/- rupees including all facilities.
• Different college course fees are different.
• Average fees in all over India is 2,00,000/- Rupees including all facilities Tuition, Hostel, Fooding and Lodging, Uniform etc.
• You can pay your course fees installment basis.
• All Merchant Navy or Marine Training institute course fees is more or less same as per DG Shipping guideline and control.

• All aspects of the sea-faring profession (Deck and Engine), including swimming, workshop training, physical drills, life saving, rope and mast climbing, fire fighting exercises and ship visits etc.
• Apart from these above courses GP Rating has mandatory below 5 including STCW courses
1. Personal survival techniques (PST)
2. Personal safety and social responsibility ( PSSR)
3. Fire prevention and fire fighting ( FPFF)
4. Elementary first aid (EFA)
5. Oil tanker familiarization (OTFC)

• January and July every year .
• Two times in every year.

• After successfully completion of GP Rating training you can start your career as a deck cadet or deck crew or engine cadet or engine crew.
• After that promoted as AB seaman, BOSUM in deck side or promoted in engine side.
• After 36 month sea experience & with certain qualifications eligible to appear for second mate exams.
• After eligible to get promotion to second officer and with further sea experience and exam can be promoted to captain level.
• Fully residential course as per the Director General of Shipping rules and regulation.
• Passport is compulsory for the candidate when you will apply for CDC after successfully completion of GP Rating course.
• If you don’t have passport must apply for it before or at the time of course starting.
