In India B.Sc. (Nautical Science) is a compulsory residential pre sea course which is approved by Director General of Shipping, Mumbai, Govt. of India.
In India B.Sc. (Nautical Science) course is also affiliated and conducted by different concern universities as per University Grants Commission (UGC) rules.
Difference Between Nautical Science and Marine Engineering:
Many people think that both courses are same, But it’s not, There have 180 degree difference between two courses.
Marine engineering students start their career as an ship’s engineer and nautical science trainee start their career as an Deck Officer.
Marine engineers main job responsibilities are maintain machineries and engine of the ships.
Nautical science trained officer’s main job responsibilities are nautical technology implementation on ship, Safely navigate and operate a ship.
The subjects include navigation and seamanship.
Seamanship is the basic operation of shipboard equipment and tools.

B.Sc. Nautical Science Course Duration
3 years course (Divided into 6 semester)
After Successfully Completion of 3 years Bachelor Degree you will go through
additional 1 year On board Training
+ 4 Month Preparatory Course
+ Requisite Modular Courses, can appear for Oral Exam of Second Mate Certificate of Competency.

B.Sc. Nautical Science Course Eligibility
Senior Secondary or Higher Secondary in 10+ 2 mode from COBSE recognized board with physics , chemistry, mathematics ( PCM) 60 % average marks and in English 50 % separately as a subject in either class 10th or class 12th.
Fully residential course as per the Director General of Shipping rules and regulation.
Passport is compulsory for the candidate when you will apply for CDC after successfully completion of B.Sc Nautical Science course.
If you don’t have passport must apply for it before or at the time of course starting.

Minimum age limit is 17.5 years and Maximum age limit is 25 years.
No age relaxation for reservation candidates e.g. SC/ST.

6/6 vision each eye.
No color blindness.
No eye glass or spectacles permitted.
Height 157 cm and weight 48 kg. Not Mandatory.

All medical examination will be conducted by DG Shipping approved authority or doctors as per Merchant shipping medical examination rules 2000 prior to final selection.
